Weight Loss Journey: Pammieac lost 34 pounds. Being diagnosed with pre-diabetes was just the wakeup call she needed. She knew the toll diabetes could take because of a family history of the disease. Check out what she shared with us about how she changed her lifestyle to get results.
Starting weight: 187 pounds
Current weight: 153 pounds
Height: 4’11”
When did you start your journey?: March 2016 (I’m still working on losing an additional 30 lbs.)
What was your motivation?
Mainly, health reasons. During my annual check up, my doctor informed me I was pre-diabetic. She gave me 3 months to loose weight. If I did not show progress, she was going to prescribe medication for diabetes. After 3 months, my doctor was very pleased. My weight went from 187 pounds to 169 pounds during that time.
What inspired you when you wanted to give up?
Sadly, I was inspired by my family history of diabetes. I thought constantly about how the disease had such a major impact on my family quality of life. Faced with this, I choose to live healthier. Hopefully, I can be an inspiration and motivate others in my family.
How did you change your eating habits?
My meals were high protein with little to no carbs, consisting of meat, fruit and vegetables only. I stopped drinking anything with sugar, i.e soda and Arizona tea, and only drank water. I changed my snacks from candy bars to almonds or fruit. Eliminating sugar was a major change. I tried to mirror the Paleo plan. The more protein I ate, the more my cravings for sweets were decreased.
What did your workout routines look like?
I worked out once a week with my trainer and the rest of the time at home. I focused on building muscles when working out with my trainer. I did planks, squats, and crunches at home.
What advice do you have for others who want to lose weight?
Eating healthy is half the battle of weight loss, as well as being consistent. I did just that and I encourage others to do the same. Change your eating habits. You will see and feel the difference.
