Update Aug 2017: Shout out to Mia. She lost 40 additional pounds for a total of 80 pounds gone.
How have you maintained your success and kept the weight loss going?
I have maintained continuous, steady weight loss and I’ve been able to effectively kept the weight off due to my low carb lifestyle. When it comes to excercise, I workout for at least 1-1 1/2 hours 4-5 days a week doing cardio/strengthening. This includes working with my personal trainer 3 days a week.
What is the biggest lesson you’ve learned on this journey?
It’s okay to EAT WHAT YOU WANT SOMETIMES! Many times, due to a few slips, we quit instead of regrouping. EVENTUALLY, you’ll get tired of starting over!
Just like you, I’ve lost and I’ve gained many times. Something is different this time. Who would have thought I would wait until I was in my fifties to decide the time was NOW, because my life depends on it. Who doesn’t want to look and feel good too? Looking good is just an extra benefit.
I asked myself, “Is food really that important?”. Is it important that a eat a piece a lemon pie and have a blood sugar reading of 400? Is it important to eat that burger and deal with GERD symptoms? The answer is easy right? Oprah once said that it’s NOT what you’re eating it’s what’s EATING at you. Ask yourself: WHATS EATING AT ME? Only you can find the answer.
Mia lost 40 pounds. She has been a nurse for 25 years and witnessed women dealing with many medical issues that could have been improved with weight loss. A low carb diet is producing results for her. Check out what she shared with us.
What was your motivation?
I’ve been a nurse for 25 years. Seeing black women coming to the hospital, time after time, with medical problems that can be easily prevented by weight loss was a wake up call for me. I choose to live and I choose to eat healthy.
My grandchildren, children and my husband are my motivation. I want to live a full life with them and the path I was on was the road to destruction, potentially filled with many types of health problems.
How did you change your eating habits?
I began a low carb diet because I am a carbohydrate addict. I stopped eating ANYTHING white or anything that contains sugar. The plan I used was a modified ATKINS plan. I eat beef, chicken, seafood, and fish (grilled or baked). Although I’m not a vegetable eater, I am allowed limitless green vegetables such as broccoli, cabbage, green beans, etc. Initially, I started with 30 grams of carbs per day for the first 2 weeks. Now, I DO NOT eat more than 60 grams of carbs a day, period. It was definitely a lifestyle change. I do not eat or drink any sugars, period.
What did your workout routines look like?
No exercise routine currently.
Starting weight/Current weight
My starting weight was 265 pounds and my current weight is 225 pounds. Height: 5’2″
When did you start your journey?
I just started 3 months ago. My transformation is still in progress, but during the 3rd month I began to notice the weight loss. I have 50 more pounds to go. My goal is 175 pounds.
What advice do you have for others who want to lose weight?
My advice is you CAN do it! Regardless of any past failures, make TODAY your day to start.
