Update Oct 2017: Angelic wrote in to update her story. This month marks the one year anniversary of her weight loss journey and she’s lost a total of 46 pounds.
How have you maintained your weight loss/continued to lose weight?
My motivation has been my son and the fact that I wanted to be healthy. Finally being able to run after my son in the park without getting tired proved to me that I shouldn’t give up on fitness. I eliminated fast foods. I also increased my water intake and increased my fruits and veggies intake. No salt or sugar as well! I started by working out 2-3 days a week then increased it to 4-6 days a week. My starting weight was 285 pounds and my current weight is 239 pounds at 5’9″. I started my journey 1 year ago this month. I experienced ups and downs over this past year, but I’ve been able to keep the weight off.
What lessons have you learned on this journey? What stands out the most?
I’ve learned that fitness is not a chore. I’ve also learned that it’s your life and you need to make it a priority. The same way we can schedule a hair appointment or go to the nail salon, is the same way we can schedule in a 30 minute workout.
At this point, would you offer any new or different advice to other people who want to lose weight?
The advice I have for others is to get your mind right first and your body will follow. Stop making excuses and stop talking about what you need to do. JUST DO IT! No surgery/pills/teas, just all natural weight loss.

December 2016: Angelic has only been on her journey since October, but she’s gone from a size 20 to a size 14. This mom wants to be able to keep up with her active 4 year old and not have to deal with swollen ankles and high cholesterol. She wrote in to share what she’s been doing to release the weight.
I wanted to share my weight loss journey with you guys to encourage women no matter the age that they can lose weight if they put their mind to it. My motivation was to be able to keep up with my very active 4 year old son. I’m only 26 years old and I shouldn’t have been having chest pains while running only for a short while when I’d play certain games with him.
What inspired me to never give up is that I want to be alive to see my son graduate from high school and on to college. The path that I was on was not a good one. I was heading towards health issues, left and right. Chest pains, ankles swelling, my cholesterol was higher than normal and I was on the brink of being diabetic, like my mother.
My eating habits have changed quite a bit. I stopped eating fast food and certain snacks. I reduced my salt intake and started to meal prep. I drink only water, no pop. I love fruit, so I ate more apples, pineapples and bananas. I’m not a huge breakfast fan, but I try to eat fruit, raisin cinnamon toast with peanut butter and a bottle of water every morning (if I don’t want to eat oatmeal). I mainly eat baked or grilled chicken breasts with brown rice and broccoli for lunch. Ground turkey, green peas and cashews are an example of what I’d have for dinner.
My workout routine: I try to include everything from doing cardio to exercises that work the legs, arms and core. I work out 4 days a week maximum and a minimum of 3 days a week, for at least 45 mins to 2 1/2 hours max per session.
My starting weight was 265 pounds and at the moment I don’t know what my current weight is because I’m not done with my journey. I track my progress using pictures and don’t plan to step on the scale for another 6 months. I am 5’9″ tall. My starting dress size was 20/22 and my current size is 14/16. I started my journey back in the beginning of October 2016. I started to see some results towards the end of November 2016.
My advice to others is that you have to mentally picture yourself where you want to be. You have to want to WORK to see those results. Keep starting over until you get it right. You can only fail if you don’t try, so don’t give up. I went from barely wanting to go up one flight of stairs to going up multiple flights of stairs with ease. I went from my ankles swelling up due to my weight gain/salt intake to my pants not fitting my waist anymore because of my progress.
Cut out the processed food and please drink water, water and MORE WATER! Yes, meal prepping is time consuming, but it is worth it because it’s healthy and it’s not costly. Follow my SnapChat and Instagram: @LilaSoLovely09 for my fitness journey, tips or to see foods I eat.
It’s only just the beginning! MY MOTTO IS SLOW PROGRESS IS BETTER THAN NO PROGRESS!
