DeAnte lost 100 pounds. This proud mom of three and yogi in training started her journey in March and gotten great results with Vinyasa yoga, intense cardio, detox water and healthy eating habits. Check out her transformation journey.
I’m a single mom of three and a local yogi in training from Port Huron, Michigan. I lost 100 pounds on my own in 4-5 months through great discipline about what I ate, high intensity cardio, and a fierce Vinyasa yoga flow. I worked out at least 4 times per week and I started my journey on March 23, 2016.
I went from 250 lbs. to 150 lbs. and I currently weigh 160 pounds. I’m currently working on toning my muscles while shaping my curves so I don’t lose them all. No surgeries, just hard work and dedication. I was left with minor loose skin due to such a rapid weight lost and not enough weight lifting. I suggest weight training on top of any weight lost regimen you have in place.
The initial motivation for my weight lost was the passing of my mother. She died at age 39 from diabetes. Shortly after her death, I weighed 250 pounds at 5’3″ tall and was only 22 years old. At that time, I was diagnosed as borderline diabetic. I knew at that very moment that I had to change my life. My three sons, two of whom have autism, here my main inspiration when I thought about giving up. I knew I was making a huge impact and being a good example for them.
In the past, I had many attempts and failures with fad diets, dietary supplements and by trying to find short cuts. I would lose up to 20 lbs and then gain it right back. That all changed two years ago. That’s when I stepped into a yoga class, desperate for a change and my life changed. My first downward dog felt like life and death at the same time. I was the biggest person in the class but I didn’t mind. I kept going every chance I got and yoga helped with my anxiety and depression.
I also started by drinking plain water. Our body is made up of mostly water and if you are not getting enough you will be dehydrated and may mistake thirst for hunger. Then, I discovered detox water. Different recipes for detox water helped me stop drinking pop, curbed my appetite, give me clarity and cleansed me. I sky rocketed from there.
No fried, red meat processed food and fast food. Instead, I ate low starch foods, turkey, fish, chicken, whole wheat, whole grains, soy milk, organic fruits and veggies. I made all home cooked, healthy meals and meal prepped.
Weight lost starts in the mind. Once you take care of your mind everything else falls in place. The discipline will come easy. Do not beat yourself up about mistakes. Keep going and try harder. Do you research because everyones body is different. Taking care of yourself for health reasons instead of looks is a great mind set to have because focusing on looks may leave you with high expectations and discouragements that you don’t need. Take lots of pictures to track progress but stay off the scale. Numbers aren’t everything.
Do not take everything that you love out of your daily eating routine at once. Take one thing off at a time to assure success. Eat everything on the food pyramid to assure you get all your vitamins while trying to count your calories. Calorie counting is huge and can really help the speed of your weight lost. Do not look at what you are doing as a diet. Healthy living is a lifestyle that comes in stages.
Next Move: I received a scholarship for yoga training at Passion Yoga School in Costa Rica with Adi Shakti and I leave in March to receive my 200 hours. My path isn’t clear just yet, but I do know this is my passion and purpose. I want to inspire and help others. #MermaidsDoExist
