Weight Loss Story: Crystal lost 50 pounds. A family history of heart problems and a desire to live a long life with her loving family were the factors that motivated her to change her lifestyle. Green smoothies, meal prep, regular exercise and portion control has been key to her success. Check out what she shared with us about her journey.
What was your motivation?
Heart problems are a serious issue on my mother’s side and my father’s side of the family, so that was my first motivation. My second motivation was my husband and my kids. I just wanted to be around for them in the future. I also remembered how my loved ones stayed in and out of the hospital with fluid issues. They felt very weak and were taking so many meds. I didn’t want that to be my story too. I was determined not to be another statistic listed under the African American stats in a textbook.
How did you change your eating habits?
I stopped eating all fried foods and stopped drinking sodas. I made water my best friend, even though I hated to drink it in the past. First, I did the 10 Day Green Smoothie Cleanse just to cleanse my system. Then, I began prepping my meals daily. I didn’t completely stop eating my favorite treats immediately. I just downsized my portions them. If I wanted some chips one day, I had some chips but only a small ziplock bag of them and that was it. I practiced not over doing it.
What did your workout routines look like?
I love to dance, so I did Zumba 2 to 3 times a week. Two days a week I walked the park, 5 miles at a time. On the days it rained, I worked out at home with the T25 and P90X DVD programs or on my elliptical. Working out was on my mind all day, everyday.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 255 pounds. This was the heaviest I’d ever been in my life! My current weight is 205 pounds. My height is 5’3″. No surgery.
How long did your transformation take?
I began this journey in Jan 2016. It took me until July 2016 to get down to 205 pounds. (7 months)
What advice do you have for others who want to lose weight?
Make short term goals, like losing 2 pounds in a week. It didn’t take you overnight to gain the weight, so don’t expect it to leave overnight. Reward yourself for your accomplishments. If I met a goal that I set in a month, I would get my nails done or buy a cute shirt.
