Transformation of the Day: Monique lost 67 pounds. She was tired of being overweight and feeling hopeless and helpless. Over the last 2 and 1/2 years, took her power back and changed her lifestyle with the help of her trainer, and by going Paleo. Check out her journey.
My name is Monique Hodge and I live in Toronto, Canada. I’ve been so motivated and inspired by Black Women Losing Weight’s Instagram posts that I’ve decided to share my story with all of you. Hope my story serves as an inspiration to others also.
What was your motivation?
I had enough of being overweight and feeling hopeless and helpless. I had to take matters into my own hands. I always knew how my story ended each timeI lost 20 pounds. This time around I wanted to know what it would feel like to lose more than what I was used to losing (that 20 lbs). Also, my personal trainer kept pushing me to go beyond my comfort zone. He believed in me and that encouraged me to go further.
How did you change your eating habits?
I became accountable to my trainer. I kept a photo food log, so I was able to show him everything I was eating. He advised me on what and what not to eat. Like many other black women out there, I was a carb junkie. We really looked at my carb intake and decided I was going to do a Paleo diet. At first, I hated it, but once I saw the results I was convinced that this was an excellent option for me to help me achieve my goals.
What did your workout routines look like?
My workouts were periodized and changed every 6-8 weeks. Some workouts focused on building muscles, other workouts were designed as circuit training routines and other workouts focused solely on building up my strength. I worked out 3 times a week.
Starting weight/Current weight
My starting weight was 252 pounds and my current weight is 185 pounds. My height is 5’6”.
How long did your transformation take?
I began in April 2014. This has been a 2.5 year journey and counting. I’m not done yet.
What advice do you have for others who want to lose weight?
It is possible. Don’t give up on yourself. The future ‘You’ will thank you for taking the first step. Understand, it is not about losing weight. It truly is a new lifestyle. It is an emotional, physical, spiritual, and psychological journey that doesn’t begin in the gym but rather in the mind. Make the decision to see yourself losing weight then go and make it happen. Your health is worth more than the cost of any personal trainer or gym membership. When you get your life back, it’s priceless… And
you are worth it!
