Weight Loss Story: Siakia has lost 51 pounds in approx. 8 months. A program at work, led to an upsetting wakeup call on the scale. It was her time to face her relationship with food, including a pattern of overeating. Check out how she took action to change her life.
Hello, my name is Siakia J. I am 29 years old and I live in Baton Rouge, LA. My motivation started when I started a new job. At work we have this program called “Healthy Lives”. I figured why not try it. Well, joining Healthy Lives was a wake up call. I hate getting on the scale but it was part of
the routine. I have this habit of closing my eyes when I get on the scale, but this time I didn’t. I stepped on the scale and my weight was 394 pounds. I broke down and cried. I was so upset that I wanted to quit my new job and move back home to Mississippi. I didn’t want to eat any more or be seen anymore. It is like I wanted to disappear.
I had a long talk with my boyfriend, my mother and close friends, as well as praying to God. I decided it was time to make a change and put in some work. I would start off good and then I would go back to overeating and stuffing myself. I mean I was in love with food. I decided that enough was enough and it was time to get my life together.
I started out by giving up fast food and giving up drinking cold drinks. I also joined this app called My Fitness Pal, which I still use today. It helps me to maintain my eating habits and stay under my calorie goal. Now, I eat more chicken breast, salmon and ground turkey. Vegetables are a plus in my diet, like greens and cauliflower. I never thought I would like zucchini and squash, but I LOVE IT now! Fruit is also a part on my daily routine; apples, strawberries, black berries, cherries and green grapes, etc. I also snack every now and then, but I follow the serving sizes on the back of the food labels.
Workouts are becoming much more easier, for me. I do a lot of cardio, strength lifting, and high knees. I do Zumba one day a week because I love to dance. Currently, I work out 4 times a week, 30 to 40 minutes per workout,
I currently weight 343 pounds. I have lost a total of 51 pounds since April of 2016. I hope my story helps someone. Sharing this story is hard for me, because I was so embarrassed about my weight in the beginning. I’m now where I want to be at the moment, but my goal is to weigh 200 pounds and be healthy and fit. I’m going to get there and I’m so ready to meet the new and improved me. Weight loss surgery is not for me, but I say do what works for you.
My advice to those who are really trying to lose pounds: don’t give up on yourself. Don’t quit, don’t stop. Keep going and surround yourself around positive people. Always remember, you can do it and always remember “I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.”
My Instagram name is @siakia.fit. Follow me. I would love to get to know new people and help as much as I can, but also to receive help from you guys. Put God first and everything else will fall into place. Let’s do this ladies!
