Transformation of the Day: Kendra lost 50 pounds. She faced depression, thoughts of suicide and medical issues. This talented makeup artist was also breaking free from an abusive marriage when she started her weight release journey. She found the accountability she needed and the strength within herself to change her life. Check out how she did it.
My name is Kendra D. I’m 27 years old and I’m from Greensboro, NC. Here’s my story…
To God be the glory for all that I went through to get here. I remember where I was during that time (n the picture on the left). I was going through a divorce and I’d been in an abusive marriage for 3 years. I was truly depressed and on top of that I was dealing with heart palpitations and thyroid issues. I even considered taking my life. I just didn’t want to live anymore. I remember how I would just cry myself to sleep and try to hide what I was really going through behind closed doors.
However, despite all of these things, I can honestly say now: I don’t look like what I’ve been through. I can honestly say that I love the woman I’m becoming. A year can truly make a difference. I’m trying not to cry as I write this but I want to give a huge shout out to my coach Rob who really helped me and saw the warrior and lioness in me. To my AWOL family and even for my family and friends who pushed me, I say thank you.
I changed my eating habits slowly. I stayed away from bread, fried foods, and stopped eating out as much. I started to cook my food more, which involved a meat, vegetable, and a complex carb with each meal. I meal prepped (my Coach taught me how to). I had to drink a gallon of water every day. It was hard and I was terrified lol, but with my Coach’s accountability and our group chat it helped me to stay on top of things.
I worked out (I still try to) 5 times a week. We did a lot of weight training, circuit training, and cardio. I actually love lifting weights though. I struggled with a lot of the exercises but I’m way better than I was. I just have to work on my speed now.
It took almost a full year to lose the weigh. Once my trainer entered into my life he pushed me and believed in me the whole time which was encouraging. In the picture on the left, I weighed 230 pounds and now I weigh 180 pounds. I’m 5’4. I still have a little bit more weight I’d like to lose (19 pounds), but I’m determined. I’m going to be in the best shape of my life.
To the ones who are on this journey with me, I say keep going and don’t give up. It’s all in the mind. If you mess up, get back up and try again. Picture yourself feeling good and looking good. Also, get some accountability.
It’s not easy changing your lifestyle and being fit/healthy, but it has soon many benefits. Your body is a temple and you have to start treating it like it. Learn how to love yourself and everything else will follow.
