Lauren lost 77 pounds. At 365 pounds, she was dealing with high blood pressure and medicating her emotions with comfort eating. This mom of 2 decided to have weight loss surgery to improve her health and wellbeing. Check out her story.
What was your motivation? What inspired you when you wanted to give up?
I have been overweight my whole life. Food brought me comfort whenever I was stressed, sad, or happy… it didn’t matter. I knew I wasn’t happy with how I looked at all. At the age of 26 years old, I topped out at my heaviest weight of 365 pounds with high blood pressure. I may have weighed more, but I never got on the scale. I looked into having the gastric sleeve surgery to help me lose the weight for good. I had the procedure in February 2015.
My inspiration was my son and now my daughter who was born this year! I want to set a good example for them of why it is important to look out for your health.
How did you change your eating habits?
Let us know if you used a specific plan or program. I cannot eat a lot because of the surgery. I try my best to eat a high protein/low fat diet, consisting of baked chicken, fish, fresh fruits and vegetables. I cut out sodas and junk food. Some days are worse than others, but I get back on track. Falling back into old habits is easy.
What did your workout routines look like?
In the past, I worked out at for at least 30 minutes a day, 5 times a week. It is a struggle between work, home, and school, but I know I have to do it. Right now, I just do cardio for 1 hour, 4-5 times a week. I plan on incorporating strength training soon.
What was your starting weight? What is your current weight?
My starting weight was 365 pounds. I currently weight 288 pounds. I’ve lost 77 lbs so far. I got pregnant in June of 2015 and it slowed down my progress some, but I am now back on track to complete my weight loss journey.
What is your height?
I’m 5’10″.
How long did your transformation take?
I officially started my journey in February of 2015 when I started my 2 week liquid diet prior to my surgery.
What advice do you have for others who want to lose weight?
Be the best you that you can possibly be! Being healthy is a start.
