Maria lost 15 pounds and lots of inches from her waistline. She shared with us about how depression impacted her weight gain and how she changed her lifestyle.
As a result of many traumatic experiences from my past; I battled with depression. Being depressed, I medicated my pain and trauma with comfort food and sweets. Eating this way gave me a feeling of euphoria and temporary comfort.
In February of this year, I cut out meat, bread, juice, sweets, starch for a month. I also made smoothies during most of the time. Then in April, I picked back up with lean meats, fish, turkey and organic chicken. I ate a lot of salads, drank a lot of water, ate more protein and ate less carbs. Today, I don’t eat beef, pork or sodas. I haven’t eaten fast foods for many years and soda was never a beverage that I liked.
I work out 4 times a week. I weighed 165 pounds when I started and now I’m down to 150 pounds. My goal is to gain more muscles & shed more fat.
I encourage each and everyone of you who battles with depression to know that it is nothing to be ashamed of. Many of us battle with it and are not even aware. If you can control your mind, you can control your health. I hadn’t felt this light, energized and spunky for a long time.
