Hi everyone! Thanks for reading this blog post, I hope this little summary of my weight loss helps anyone hoping to make a lifestyle change.
My weight loss journey has caused a huge change in both my health and my lifestyle. I was not sick or anything, but when you go through a transformation you notice the internal and external changes to your body that others don’t. When people see me now, they are always asking me how I did it!
I had been trying to lose weight for as long as I can remember. I paid for two gym memberships and always ended up wasting them by quitting along the way. I would also end up heavier than before and feeling uncomfortable in my own skin, which is just not me as I’m usually a really confident person. I was really unhappy due to this lack of confidence and my weight.
In December 2014, I was a bridesmaid for a friend’s wedding. When I saw the pictures afterwards, I did not like what I saw. I felt like I was trapped under so much extra skin. I wanted to make a change in the New Year for 2015, but like so many previous New Year’s resolutions, I didn’t follow through… until May 2015. That is when I officially started.
My transformation didn’t happen overnight like a lot of people wish, or even as quick I wanted it to. I gave weight loss another try and this time around my approach was different. I decided not only to change my diet, but also to change my mindset and my attitude towards food and exercise… and it worked.
I started with one hour in the gym. Then I started running for 30 minutes and worked up to an hour long run. I did pure cardio for over a month, because I was desperate to burn fat. I knew that if I saw that number change from 85 kgs (187.3 pounds) to anything below that on the scale I would be so motivated!
You know what? Working out worked! The fitter I got, the better my stamina and my running got. Now, I workout for 2 1/2 hours, five days a week. On the weekends, I do outdoor running and I love it.
I know this all sounds like a lot, but it’s manageable! I enjoy working out and I find it relaxing. I started to see results, especially when I corrected my diet. Fixing my diet was hard. I love food, but making the changes were so worth it. Once I figured out my eating habits, everything else fell into place. I went from 85kg to 65kg in 5 months.
Weight loss and lifestyle transformation is not easy but it is possible. Remember slow progress is better than no progress!
