Transformation of the Day: Sherrita lost 135 pounds with surgery and hard work. At 300 pounds, was fearful of losing her mobility, becoming a burden to her family or dealing with weight related diseases. Now, at 49 years young, she’s learned how to create a healthy lifestyle in line with the longeivity she seeks. Check out her story.
I am half the woman I used to be. I have lost over 100 lbs and have maintained my victory for going on 10 years!
My motivation was taking a long, good look in the mirror one day and being very disgusted with the reflection. I got inspiration from being fearful that one day I would not be about to be mobile and that I’d be a burden on my children. I am very independent and if that’s threatened or taken away, you may as well roll me off the planet!
I was so afraid of my weight’s impact on my health and dying, that I chose to have gastric sleeve weight loss surgery. It’s not the magic bullet people may think it is. In order to be successful after surgery, one has to be focused on losing the weight and determined to keep it off.
No, I don’t starve myself. I have learned how to make better food choices. I’ve learned that by eating my protein first, I get fuller a lot faster. Actually, sometimes I’m too full to eat the remaining portion of my meal. Then, there are times when all I want as a meal are fruits and vegetables.
I workout about for 1 and 1/2 hours. five times a week. I spend no less than 45 mins of this time strictly on cardio and then, depending on my rotation, I work my upper or lower body. It’s funny, because I used to think of exercising as a four lettered word and didn’t like to sweat. I have learned that sweating is good for me!
My heaviest weight was about 300 pounds. Today, I weight approx. 165 pounds. I am about 5’5″ and it has been almost 10 years since my surgery. During this process, I have gained roughly 10-15 lbs, most of which is muscle.
I share my journey with all who listen, due to the fact that I know how committed one must be in order to maintain weight loss. If the Lord says the same, I will be 50 years old in December. I thought I would never live to see my late 30s due to how heavy I was. I thought I’d be suffering from just about all of the illnesses that associated with obesity. Today, I am a walking testimony of the goodness of my Lord.
My advice for others on this journey: Make healthier food choices and MOVE, MOVE, MOVE!
