Transformation of the Day: Amber lost 147 pounds. She wanted to make sure that her daughter has healthy footsteps to follow in. After a friend’s weight loss inspired her to check out an at-home workout program and meal plan, she was on her way to great results. Check out her story.
My highest weight was 294 pounds. I had gained and lost 20-30 pounds over the years. After I had my daughter, I gained weight from exhaustion. By the time she was a year old, I weighed 277 pounds.
A year later, she was almost two and I was unhappy, because I was seeing her follow in my footsteps, even though I was trying to do everything healthy for her. I felt that even then she was still going to turn out like me.
Then, I witnessed a friend of mine lose 80 pounds in 7 months. I never knew that was possible without surgery until I saw her do it. So, I started doing T25 with the meal plan, lost 30 pounds and I was addicted. In less than two years, I got down to 147 pounds and I am continuing to lose. I am 5’6″.
I started changing my eating habits by counting calories, I had no idea at that point what my bad habits were. Eventually, I gave up drinking milk, replacing it with water and drinking half my body’s weight in oz. I used to drink 2 1/2 gallons of milk a week. I also gave up chips, specifically Doritos, because I was addicted to those. I have a real emotional attachment to food. I also started eating fruit. I always hated fruit before and now I crave it! When I began I didn’t know what a macronutrient was or what macros are, but now I break my macros down to eating 50% carbs and 20-30% protein and fats.
My workouts are interval training and weight lifting. I work out up to 1 hour a day, 6 days a week. I use Beachbody DVD programs, like T25, 21 Day Fix, Insanity, Body Beast, etc.
My original motivation was my daughter and just being able to breath were. Then it turned into completely transforming myself from the inside out. Not just my appearance has changed, but my entire outlook on life. I used to base everything in life on other people, their happiness, and what they thought of me. That was the 150 pounds of weight I was carrying 24/7. This made me an unhappy wife, mother, daughter and friend. When I started putting myself first with my workouts and nutrition, everything else fell in line, including my relationships with others.
My advice is trust the process, always. Even if it looks like you are not making progress, trust and believe. I am always so thankful for the night that I’d had enough and was done punishing myself physically and mentally. I’m thankful that I decided to live.
