My best friend sent this old photo me this today and I was in total shock of how I let myself go. This picture was taken in 2013, when I decided to begin this lifestyle change and take care of my body. I weighed 198 pounds and felt sluggish, insecure, body conscious and stressed. I didn’t like shopping for clothes, attending social events, etc.
My turning point was when I realized that I didn’t want to feel like the “big girl” in the group anymore. That’s when I decided to make a change for the better. I started off by getting a gym membership. I worked out 3-4 days out the week, doing Zumba, kickboxing, bootcamp, etc.. It was extremely hard, but I knew for a fact I didn’t want to be unhappy about my size any longer.
Bread and fast food were my go-to comfort foods. I let go of bread, soda, junk food, desserts and fried foods. I transitioned over to seafood and chicken, almost immediately. I also ate a lot of fruits, lots of veggies and I only drank water. Before I knew it, the weight started falling off within the first 30 days.
It’s been a long but bittersweet journey. Now, I’m weighing in at 131.2, for a total of 66.8 lbs gone. I look and feel good, inside and out! I feel more energized, happier, more confident and I’m loving my body. (Flaws & All!) My height is 5’4″. It took me about 3 years on and off to reach my ultimate goal.
My advice: I always tell people that it’s mind over matter. Can’t nobody stop you, but YOU! Keep pushing! Your are going to have set backs, that’s just part of life. It’s not going to be easy, but you’ve got to believe that it’s going to be worth it in the end! You can do anything you put your mind to. Stay positive!
