Transformation of the Day: Kimberly lost 137 pounds. At a doctor’s visit 2 years ago, she found out that she’d reached 400 lbs. Her doctor suggested surgery, but she decided to lose the pounds on her own with healthy eating and exercise. Her hard work has paid off and now she’s sharing her success story with us.
On October 15, 2012 at the age of 29 years old, I went in to my doctor for a check up. The nurse asked me to get on the scale so that she could take my weight. Hesitantly, I got on the scale and when I looked down, the scale read 401 pounds. It was at that very moment that I realized I was morbidly obese and I had to do something about it. My doctor told me if I kept on the route I was going that I would be on all types of medication before I turned 32 years old.
My doctor suggested weight loss surgery, however I told him that I could do it on my own. Through the years, I tried several diets, but this time it was different. I knew that I had to do something and I had to do it quickly. That day, I made a vow that I would no longer drink anything that had calories. That meant no more soda, milk shakes, juice, etc. I also made the decision that I would be more conscious of what I ate and limit my portions. I cut out all fried foods and sweets and ate chicken, fish and vegetables. My snacks consist of almonds and Light and Fit Greek yogurt.
I refused to go to the gym, because I was felt like I was too big, so I started walking the track in my neighborhood. Later on, I walked on the treadmill 4 times a week. I started out on the treadmill only walking a mile and then worked my way up to three miles. I recently hit a plateau, so I started doing MixxedFit, which is a hip hop dance class. This change appears to be helping me lose more weight.
The weight started falling off. When I went back to my doctor 3 months later I’d lost 39 pounds. My doctor was so proud, but more importantly, I was overjoyed. As time went on and I lost more weight, I started gaining more confidence and I joined the local gym. I started working out four times a week, just working out on the treadmill. I also lowered my calories to 1600. I cut out sweets, unless it was a special occasion.
Today, I weigh 264 pounds. I have lost 137 pounds since 2012. (Height 5’4″) Although I’m still working towards my goals, I am well on my journey to a healthier life! To everyone in this struggle, I encourage you to stay the course it will pay off!
