Fit Couple Transformation: Jelani and Randall lost the weight together. He wanted to support her as she competed in a weight loss contest, so he decided to join her. They worked with her coach and have truly benefited from meal prepping and having a plan that fits their lifestyle. Read all about their journey.
What was your motivation? What inspired you?
Jelani: When I started my journey in 2014, my motivation was to lose weight for myself and my family. I did not like being the “fat mom” and my son was teased because of my weight at his school. I also saw how my weight affected my confidence and health. I wanted to find out whether losing weight would make my ailments better as well.
Randall: I wanted to support my wife on her journey and compete in the IUTBU contest with her.
How did you change your eating habits?
Randall: I followed the contest meal plan that was provide by Coach Wiltrina Jones.
Jelani: I joined a trainer, stopped eating out and started meal prepping my foods on a weekly basis. I “earned” my cheats. I do not eat fried foods anymore, gave up drinking sodas and all other drinks besides water. Once I joined IUTBU, I prepped and followed Coach Wiltrina’s meal plans that were customed to what I like to eat.
What did your workout routines look like?
Jelani: At first I just did cardio. Once my doctor said I could lift weights and it would strengthen me, I started to lift weights as well.
Randall: In the beginning of the contest, I did a lot of cardio. I added weights to my cardio routine and I’m in Tae Kwon Do, which enabled me to burn additional calories daily.
Starting Weight/Current Weight
Jelani: When I started my journey, I weighed 209 pounds. When I started with Coach Wiltrina, I was 195 pounds from gaining back 10 pounds by getting off track, adding extra “snacks” to my meal plans. Today I weigh 166 pounds.
Randall: My starting weight was 220.2 pounds. Today, I weigh 198 pounds.
Randall: height: 6’5″
Jelani: height: 5′ 5″
How long did your transformation take?
Jelani: My total transformation has taken 18 months, I have been with Coach for 6 months.
Randall: My transformation took 11 weeks.
What advice do you have for others who want to lose weight?
Randall: Join IUTBU, prepare your mind to stick with it and follow through you won’t be disappointed.
Jelani: Coach Trina is the truth. Joining her has taken me farther than I thought I could go eating on a plan. Although I have lost weight before, it was done using a plan that was too rigid and one that did not fit my lifestyle. Losing weight is not a quick fix, you have to learn about food, commit to following a plan that is conducive to your lifestyle and food prep. A lack of preparation will be a set-up for failure. Don’t rush, it is a lifetime journey, but don’t take your time either. Seek BALANCE and make this part of your daily life. Make your journey a priority and get to know yourself… your triggers. This will save you on numerous occasions. In ALL, stick to a good plan and don’t give up or give in.
My husband finding his own journey has definitely increased our communication. We have tried working out together in the past, but always stopped for one reason or another. We now look forward to spending that time together and having a good time in the gym, it has brought us closer. He has always supported me by doing the shopping for my meal plans before he joined IUTBU, but now it is on another level. He respects food prep, LOL. I say that because he has joined me in the kitchen and sees how food prepping is a balancing act. It takes time, but it is NEEDED.
