Weight loss is definitely the biggest mental battle I have ever faced in my life. I have always loved food. It was my source of celebration during happiness and my source of comfort during times of sadness. Over the years, I have gone through every diet fad known to man, where I have lost a quick 40 pounds only to gain it back. Just as I was on the brink of looking into weight loss surgery, I made up my mind to give it one more shot. No pills and no fads, just working hard in the kitchen and equally as hard at the gym.
On January 25, 2015, I made the decision that I was ready for a better version of me. I knew it was going to take everything in me, but I was committed and mentally ready for this battle. I desired to not only look healthy, but also to feel healthy. I am an extremely busy wife and mother of two little boys, therefore I was always on the go. Between fast food and their favorite recipes filled with cheese, pastas, fried foods and homemade cheesecakes, it was going to take some major commitment. I immediately changed my eating habits, relying on solely on ‘clean’ dietary methods (whole, non-processed foods) and drinking a minimum of two green smoothies, which consisted of kale spinach and various fruits a day. For me to be successful, it has been essential for me to do nightly meal prep of my breakfast, lunch, dinner and snacks for the following day.
About two weeks after I got my eating manageable, I began to develop a fitness lifestyle. I also got connected with a partner that was committed to changing her lifestyle as well (@lanelain – September Feature BWLW). We committed ourselves to workout at Anytime Fitness for 5-6 days a week. It was important for me to be held accountable for my workouts and my eating on a daily basis and because I made the commitment to be accountable the results are undeniable.
Now, after being faithful and working through those ugly plateaus, I can proudly say that I have lost 72 pounds in 10 months. Even though I am not done, I am excited for what I have accomplished thus far. My next goal is to lose 28 more pounds to equal a grand total of 100 pounds lost by the end of January.
My advice to anyone wanting to lose weight, especially a large amount of weight, you must be mentally prepared and be willing to do what it takes. You got to be mentally ready for those plateaus and those minimum pounds lost weeks. PRESS THROUGH! Pray and stay focused on what you desire for yourself, and be willing to do the work to get the results you want. There is no easy answer and it is no quick fix. This is a lifestyle that you must adopt for a lifelong change. I not only learned this principle this year, but I am now living it and I feel absolutely amazing.
