Weight Loss Story: LaKendra lost 70 pounds with bariatric weight loss surgery. After years of trying to lose the weight, she was borderline diabetic, had high blood pressure and was facing mobility issues. Now, she’s had surgery, changed her eating habits and is exercising regularly. Here is what she shared with us…
Hi there! My name is LaKendra Willis and I love your Facebook page! It’s very inspiring, I enjoy watching everyone get into shape. At my highest I ballooned up to 280 pounds. I’ve struggled with my weight my entire life and I needed that extra push. I recently had bariatric surgery and I’ve lost quite a bit of weight. I now go to the gym 5 days a week, eat very healthy and I feel great.
What inspired me to lose weight was my health. I was borderline diabetic, had high blood pressure and I was beginning to be immobile to an extent. I was tired of feeling “handicapped” in a way. I’ve been overweight my entire life and diets were not working. After years of trying and failing, I felt my best option was bariatric weight loss surgery (gastric sleeve). I don’t regret my decision. The people I have met and bonded with have been truly an inspiration.
As far as eating habits, I pretty much eat proteins, non starch vegetables and healthy fats. My sugars and carbs are limited. I only drink water, teas and crystal light. I don’t drink any soda or caffeinated beverages. I go to the gym 3-4 times a week. I switch between cardio and weight training. I spend about 2 hours there each day.
My current weight is 190 pounds. I started my journey at 260 pounds. My highest weight was 280 lbs. I’m down 90 lbs from my highest weight and 70 pound from this journey, which began in February of this year (2015). I am 5 foot tall even.
My advice would be to do whatever you feel is necessary to get yourself healthy and feeling great. Join a support group and have positive influences around you. Don’t let anyone make you feel guilty or horrible about the decisions you make. Drink lots of water and go at your own pace. Never compare your journey to someone else’s.
