Weight Loss Story of the Day: Jodi lost 50 pounds. This young lady did not want to fall victim to a family history of of disease and was inspired by the weight loss journey of her church youth leader. She shared with us the actions she took to change her lifestyle and release the pounds.
Good Evening! My name is Jodi-Ann Arthurs. My heaviest weight was 210 pounds and now I weigh 160 pounds. My motivation to change was me just being tired of being tired. My health was declining and diabetes runs in my family. I did not want to become a victim of that illness. I was only 18 years old and to other people I was in pretty good shape, however I knew that I could do better.
I had many inspirations, but one of my main sources was my youth leader at my church who lost over 100 pounds. She had a surgery that was very high risk and the recovery time was slow and painful. She also experienced pregnancy issues, but was later able to have the baby and she’s still on her journey losing weight, no matter what comes her way.
I didn’t necessarily change what I ate drastically. I just ate in moderation and used portion control. However, I did cut out McDonald’s and late night eating. That had a tremendous effect on my weight loss. I started eating more fruits and vegetables everyday. I workout 5-6 days a week, 3-4 hours every each day. I do an hour or more of strength training, Zumba for cardio and running.
I am 5’3″ tall and my transformation took 4 years. It looks like I lost more than 50 pounds because I have gained muscle and begun my toning process. I decided to do it slow this time because I lost 30 pounds once before )over the course of a month), but gained it all back plus 30 more. That was devastating to me.
I have made a true lifestyle change and it works for me. My advice to others is don’t worry about tomorrow and don’t worry about yesterday. Tell yourself that today is the day I’m going to do something good for myself. Even if I messed up yesterday, today is the day I give back to me because I am more than worth it.
