Update Aug 2016 – Tyjah shared her story of losing 55 pounds with us a little over a year ago. Since then, she had a challenging pregnancy which included complications, bed rest and her son being in the NICU for 3 months. Now, she is working out, eating healthy and she’s on a mission to reach her goals. Check out her update!
On my previous journey, I lost 55 pounds naturally and tried to continue keeping up with my health and exercising during my pregnancy. However, I had complications, remained on bed rest and was constantly in and out of the hospital. All I did was eat eat eat. I was ready to get back to my “old body” once I gave birth. Unfortunately, things didn’t go as planned and my baby spent 3 months in the NICU and of course that’s stressful so guess what I did? Eat ! I tried to restart my journey a few times, which was almost impossible. I had to grab whatever was in site (a cookie, a cupcake… you name it) and spent majority of my day in the NICU. Well, now my baby is home and I made a change in my lifestyle and I am feeling so much better! This is only a 17 lbs difference but I sure am proud of myself. I’m not as stressed I have more energy and I’m happier nowadays ? I haven’t reached my goal yet but I am getting there!
My eating habits were horrible while my son was in the hospital. I would grab anything I can get my hands on and fast food was becoming a problem. When he came home, I reverted back to my old ways. I cut out fried foods, fast food, white carbs, and high calorie juice. I also drank more water and green tea.
I haven’t been working out as often as I should. However, I work out once or twice a week for at least 30 minutes. I do about 10 minutes of cardio and the remainder of the time is spent weight lifting. I am 5’6″ tall and after birthing my child my weight was 207 pounds. Now I weigh 190 pounds. I’m continuing my journey. This time around is a little bit harder but I am determined to reach my goals. I advise anyone who is trying to lose weight to move at your own pace. It’s not a race, so don’t focus on the scale too much. At one point, the scale did not move for weeks but my clothes fit different. If you keep in mind why you began your journey you will surely succeed. @ty_roadtofitness
July 2015 – Weight Loss Transformation of the Day: Tyjah lost 50 pounds. After recovering from a life threatening car accident, she knew that she had the strength to transform her lifestyle. She took control and released the weight with healthy eating and exercise. Here is what she shared with us about her weight loss journey…
I always struggled with my weight and didn’t even realize it was a problem because I was so use to it. I knew I wanted to be smaller but it wasn’t a top priority for me, I didn’t even know where to start. On July 5th 2013, I was in a life threatening car accident. After surviving I knew I could accomplish ANYTHING. Once I made a full recovery, I knew that it was time to take control and I did just that. I’m down a total of 50 pounds and I’m still going.
I began with cutting out fried foods, red meat, white carbohydrates and soda. In fact, I try to avoid drinking calories as much as possible. I started to eat a lot of baked fish, green vegetables and drink plenty of water! Throughout my journey I used the app Lose It, to assist me with my calorie intake which was a great help.
In the beginning of my journey I focused on cardio. The elliptical machine was my best friend, I slowly incorporated lifting, ab workouts, and full body workouts into my routine. On average, I would say that I spent 4 days a week in the gym. I started off going 30-45 mins a day, of course that changed as I got deeper into my journey. Now there is no limit for me, but the minimum amount of time is an hour.
I started in 2013 at 220 lbs at 5’6″ tall (my highest weight ever). It took me about 8 months to lose 50 lbs so now I weigh 170 lbs. I was successful at keeping the weight off and now I’ve embarked on a new journey.
For all those who want to lose weight just keep in mind that we all are human. There may be some weeks where you don’t lose any weight or may even gain some but you cannot stop. We make mistakes you may have a cheat meal here and there but don’t ever lose sight of what you started your journey for. It’s a struggle sometimes but I am no different than you WE ALL CAN DO IT. Losing weight is mind over matter and do not let the scale control you. Do not deprive yourself of the foods you like to eat, just make an alternate, people get the misconception that eating healthy is nasty which is not true! Continue to do your research and if you are on this site then you are on the right path to getting healthy.
