Weight Loss Transformation of the Day: Johanna lost 54 pounds. She got fed up with years of her weight going up and down and decided to change her eating habits and embrace regular exercise, running in particular. She’s done 12 5k’s and 1 10k. Here is what she shared with us…
My name is Johanna and this is my weight loss story. I have always struggled with my weight. Every since I was 14 years old, I have been on a yo-yo cycle with my weight. It was not until I was at my highest weight of 207 pounds that I got so tired of going up and down. It was on Jan 11, 2014 that I stepped on a track around the conner from my house and declared that I would run a marathon and make a commitment to a healthier life, which I posted on Facebook that day. Talk about accountability! I could not even run 3 steps that day, but, I stuck with it and continued to push.
I changed my eating habits. I made sure to add vegetables in every meal that I ate. My breakfast would start with egg whites and 1 whole egg with mushrooms, spinach, green peppers and red onions. Lunch would be baked chicken with sweet potato and broccoli. Dinner would be salmon with salad and kale. I also added protein shakes in my diet and removed sodas and juices. I started drinking water and when I got tired of water I would make flavored water with fruits and mint leaves.
I would run 3 times a week and go to the gym for strength training classes 2 times a week. I started following fitness trainers on instagram to get advice on how to lose weight the correct way. I have also included pilates and yoga to my workout schedule, which I love. I always tell people that I lost the weight because I was tired and had made up my mind I was going to change. Today, I weight 153 pounds (height: 5’6″) and have run a total of 12 5k’s and 1 10k. I want to credit Black Girls Run for helping me on my journey. I will be running my first half marathon in November. My motto now is you can do anything if you put your mind and heart in to it. I am now working on toning my body more, so I have added more days to my strength training. Instagram: @johjeune
