Weight Loss Transformation of the Day: Sonia lost 78 pounds. She overcame years of yo-yo dieting, the loss of a loved one, divorce and depression to find a healthy lifestyle that works for her.
After seeing this picture on the left in 2009, I knew I needed to change. At the time, I weigh 255+ lbs. I began a low fat “diet” at that time and loss 55 in 6 months. The next three years, I would yo-yo between 200 and 210 lbs. December 2012, I lost my dad and seperated from my husband all at the same time. I fell into a deep depression that carried into most of 2013. This caused me to eat away my pain and gain back 30 of the 55 lbs I lost. Dealing with everything I was dealing with in my life, I fell into a deep depression. Food was my only comfort, and so I started to overeat and I never really was able to gain control of my eating until May of last year.
May 2014, I decided to cut my carbs and eat high healthy fats. Although I gave up breads and starches, I didn’t feel deprived and at the end of the day, that was my goal…. to not “feel” like I’m on a “diet”. I’m able to eat my bacon, use real butter, all the protein I can stand, and most importantly, I found great low carb substitutes for some of my favs like pancakes and cheesecake.
In the beginning, my workout was very basic. I started off by walking either outside or on the treadmill in the gym and some very light weight training. As of January this year, I started training for my first marathon for 2016! This training includes of course running intervals and cross fit training.
I have lost 57 pounds ,going from 234 lbs to 177 lbs, making my grand total of 78 lbs lost (height: 5’1″). I’m not done yet, but, I thank God for all He’s brought me through.
Weight loss is one of the hardest battles you can fight. Simply because you it’s a battle with yourself. My advice for anyone wanting to lose weight is to take it one day at a time. Through out this journey, you’re going to have highest of highs and lowest of lows. But, as long as you give it 1000%, YOU WILL WIN!
