Weight Loss Story of the Day: Kimberly lost 85 pounds. She shared with us about the roller coster of health issues and weight gain she’s experienced since her college years. Determined to get healthy, she has committed herself to working out and eating right. Check out what she had to share…
I was always a skinny Minnie in school. I even had “slim” on my high school senior coat. After high school, I went to college at Georgia State University. During that time I lived alone, rarely cooked, studied all day and ate food all night. I toppled 270 pounds by the time I graduated in 2009. Not only that, but my breasts were so big that I began having back pain and rashes under my breasts. After graduating, I decided it’s time to get my health in order. I was out of breath when I walked, never slept well, blood pressure was high and I had to get healthy.
I began walking, then jogging, and soon was able to run. I ran every morning. Since I was unemployed, I had additional time to leave the track then go to the gym for weights. I lost 70 pounds and was down to 200 lbs. My doctor recommended a breast reduction which I also did and was able to exercise after that more than ever! I got down to 180 pounds and boom….2 yrs later after taking medicine the doctors give me a medicine to break my migraines cycles (a steroid medication). I got Cushing’s Syndrome. My entire upper body blew up in 2 months. This was 6 months before my wedding by the way. I again was nearly 250 pounds and since then I have been working out and maintaining my current weight. I am currently 185 pounds. I’m 5 “10” so I feel so good. I’m healthy again. I choose to take my life back & It’s mines forever!
How did you change your eating habits?
I changed my eating habits by subscribing to women health and fitness magazines. The magazines kept me encouraged my providing healthy tasty meals that I liked without eating all the calories. I stopped eating as much sweets, deserts, and bread. I also really cut back on my carbs/starch such as potatoes and pasta and didn’t eat before bed anymore.
What did your workout routines look like?
I would walk/run a mile and a half 5 days a week. I would also incorporate Jillian Michaels at home DVD’s on days I didn’t wanna hit the track. I never used the treadmill because it doesn’t provide results as fast as running/ walking outside does, in my opinion..
How long did your transformation take? My transformation took a year total, although I saw significant results in 6 months
What advice do you have for others who want to lose weight? The advice I have for others is to keep pushing little by little. Small pounds add up to big weight loss numbers in the end, so don’t get discouraged by just loosing 1 pound one week, 3 pounds the next and then 1 pound the next week. Ultimately you’ve still lost a total of 5 pounds in 3 weeks! Start small with walking and believe me, overtime, your body will build up what it needs in order for you to jog, and then eventually run. (Besides with the weight dropping off, you’ll feel better about running anyway)
