- Diet Drinks Can Contribute to Weight Gain
It was believed that diet drinks only cause weight gain from inducing unhealthy overeating habits but this may not be the only answer. Research is showing that an additional reason diet beverage drinkers gain weight is due to an unhealthy gut.
The gut contains bacteria that is vital for our overall health. An unhealthy gut can cause all sorts of side effects like illness, digestive issues and, you guess it, weight gain. A trial study done by the Weizmann Institute of Science showed that components in diet drinks negatively affects healthy gut bacteria. This not only lead to weight gain but caused other metabolic disease.
Don’t be fooled into thinking that diet drinks are healthy options. Though they may contain less calories, sugar and carbs it doesn’t mean these drinks are necessarily good for your body. The best beverage is filtered water. Infusing your water with fruits, herbs, freshly made juice, natural sweeteners or drinking sparkling water is a great way to add some variety. Organic teas and coconut water are also an excellent alternatives.
