What other options do you have for payment?
If your insurance does not cover bariatric surgery, there are two other options for paying for the procedure. Many of the centers that will provide the surgery maintain ties with financing companies that will loan the money to you. They work in much the same way that auto financing companies do with auto showrooms. The other option is to take out a second mortgage on your home to pay for the surgery. Due to the cost of the surgery, there are no payment plan options available. Recovery from the surgery can take a year or two because of the lifestyle changes it involves that can seriously interrupt your ability to work. Always make sure that you can make the payment plans before financing bariatric surgery yourself. If your insurance does cover it, but doesn’t think that you fit the medical necessity definition for needing it, challenge the denial before deciding you will self-finance the procedure.
