Awesome Weight Loss Journey: Shyrita lost the pregnancy weight. This proud mom shed 21 pounds, but she is more fit and healthy now than she was pre-pregnancy. Once she could workout again, she committed to sharing her workouts with the world on Youtube as a form of accountability. Check out her story and her exercise videos.
What was your motivation?
My motivation is my health and family history of obesity, diabetes, and high blood pressure along with the desire to be around for my family long into the future.
How did you change your eating habits?
I decided to meal prep each week, planning my meals so there could be no reason for me to grab unhealthy food or have to figure out at the last minute, what I was going to eat when I became hungry. I incorporated more veggies, more lean meats, and healthy carbohydrates. I only eat red meat or fried food 2-3 times per month. I do not deprive myself of sweets. I make healthier choices and watch my portion sizes with everything I eat.
What did your workout routines look like?
My workouts consisted of 3-5 rounds of intense, challenging moves. A typical workout lasts no more than 15-30 minutes. I also add in a walk or jog/walk before the end of the day. My workouts can be found on my Youtube page which will be linked below.
I became serious about my fat loss journey once I became pregnant in 2013. My mind was made up to begin recording my workouts as soon as I gave birth and was released by my doctor to exercise again. My decision to upload workouts to Youtube came about by wanted to hold myself accountable for my fat loss before the world. This made me want to push myself even harder to yield results and show regular mothers and people like myself that it is possible to lose fat and be healthy if the desire for it is really there without the fear to work hard for it.
Starting Weight/Current Weight/Height
I am 5.5” tall. My pre-pregnancy weight was an out of shape 173 pounds. My post-pregnancy weight
was 194.2 pounds. I now weigh 172.8 pounds!! For me, I have achieved more than the overall weight number on the scale. The scale I use measures body water, bone, fat, and muscle as well. I also use a
measuring tape for inches lost.
My post pregnancy body bone percentage was 3.5%, water was 44.6%, fat was 39% and muscle
was 29.3% with a waistline circumference of 40 inches. I now have a bone percentage of 3.8%, water 48.1%, fat 34.2% and muscle 31.6% with a waistline circumference of 35.5 inches!! I stopped focusing on the weight number on the scale and started focusing on the muscle and fat percentages to yield results and it really made a huge difference!! So even though I have lost all of the weight from my pregnancy, I am slimmer and more fit than I was before I became pregnant, because my muscles are more defined and my waist is much smaller. I really believe I found what works for me and will continue on this journey to show others it can be done!!
How long did your transformation take?
My transformation took 13 months total. I recorded my first fitness workout video in August of
2014.
What advice do you have for others who want to lose weight?
1. Be patient on your new fit lifestyle journey
2. Use challenging bodyweight moves with a mix of cardio weekly
3. Make time to exercise, focusing on building muscle/strength and fat loss, not weight loss
4. Balance healthy eating, water intake, exercise, and sleep
5. Eat healthy 85%-90% of the time and do not deprive yourself of guilty foods
6. Think before you eat (why am I eating?)
7. Track progress (Monthly pictures of same poses in the same outfit, scale, measurement tape,
write it down, fitness apps, online tools)
8. Plan ahead (your day, meals, workouts, etc..)
9. There are no miracle pills or devices that will make you fit overnight and surgery is dangerous
leaving you with scars.
