Today’s weight loss success story: Carmen lost 92.5 pounds with the help of Black Girls Run. Here’s what Carmen had to say about her weight loss journey:
“I am a wife and mother of 8 children. I work full time and in school for my Masters in Nurse Midwifery. Why am I saying all of this? Because many people think they don’t have “time” to workout/live healthy. But my Grandfather always said “there’s no excuse” so I adopted that philosophy into my life. I was scared of the possibilities of what could happen to my health internally so I went on a journey to change my life. My highest weight ever was 309. I started focusing on changing myself through diet and exercise and as of march this year began my ultimate lifestyle change when I became a vegan. I also juice from time to time and focus on eating clean 90/10. I have lost 95.2 lbs & 70 inches. I have little more to get to my goal weight. I workout 5 days a week with a combination of running/spinning, weights and yoga. I am a part of a local Black Girls Run group which inspires women all over the country to change their lives by focusing on their health. I most recently completed my first 15k and look forward to becoming a triathlete next year. When I first started I couldn’t last 5 minutes at 3.5 on a treadmill. I strive to show others if I can do it, they can too! Anything is possible!”

YOU INSPIRE ME. My DREAM is to one day run. I have tried to do a few minutes of running and a few minutes of jogging, too much weight and my knees are bad. Any suggestions as to how to ease into running? Thank You.

I just started running for the past two month an I am only running give minutes at a time. That my not seen a lot but to me it is because I couldn’t even run a full minute. The reason I say this is I weight 280 and I do a lot of leg exercise with weigh to strength them and that what helps me.

I knew someone who tried their exercise routine in the pool, so that there is no pressure on your joints. That may be a start until some of the weight comes off and you can move onto doing things on the treadmill, elliptical or outside

Wow thats great. You are really a great inspiration to me. U have been contemplating about going back ti school fir my masters also but my excuse is no time and the kids who are all under the age of 10. So i exercise when i can and try my best to watch what I eat and limit my portion. If u can do this with 8 kids then I have no excuse with 3 kids. Through you I see there is hope for me yet. Thank you and God bless you.

Thanks for your story. You’re life sounds like mine minus the husband. I’m about yo go back to school and I want to start a lifestyle change. You motivated me to stick with it.
Carmen says
Keya-you can do it. It’s tough but sometimes I use my kids as my motivation. I tell them I am doing what I can so that they can have a better life. I tell myself that I am setting an example for my kids that they can do anything regardless of their circumstances
Carmen says
Thank you all so very much for your kind words. With God all things are possible. I get through the days one at a time and wake up with the attitude of try my best each day. I encourage all of you to try what your heart’s goal is. One day at a time-if the first day doesn’t go so well, get back up and try again the next day. When I was 297, I couldn’t walk for 5 minutes on the treadmill, but I was able to get up to being able to get on the elliptical. Baby steps lead to bigger steps…it is possible, I am living proof. :0)
